## What Ads Manager reports

Available in table view, chart view, and CSV export, at campaign, ad group, and ad level.

| Metric | What it counts | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Impressions | Times your ads were shown | All levels |
| Clicks | Times users clicked your ads | All levels |
| Spend | Total delivered spend | All levels |
| CTR | Impressions that became clicks | All levels |
| Avg CPC | Average cost per click | All levels |
| Avg CPM | Average cost per 1,000 impressions | All levels |
| Conversions | Click-through conversions only, when measurement is configured | All levels |
| VTA (1d) | One-day view-through conversions, reported separately | Eligible accounts |

The Segment menu controls Device and Country breakdowns only. Conversion-event columns are added through Edit columns → Conversions & events.

Allow 24 to 48 hours for attributed conversions to be reflected in Ads Manager.

## View-through conversions, read correctly

Ads Manager reports one-day view-through conversions — VTA (1d) — at campaign, ad group, and ad level.

A view-through conversion is counted when someone converts within one day of an eligible ad impression and no qualifying ad click receives credit for the same conversion. **If both an impression and a click qualify, the click gets credit.**

Where to find it:
- In the attribution breakdown shown when hovering the Conversions column
- As an optional standalone column, added via Edit columns → VTA (1d)
- In CSV exports

**What it is not:** view-through conversions are supplemental reporting. They do not affect CPA, post-click conversion rate, bidding, billing, or conversion optimisation, and they are not included in the Conversions total. Adding the two columns together produces a meaningless number.

**Why it still matters:** a conversational surface generates impressions that influence purchases without a click more often than a search results page does. VTA makes that influence visible as a directional signal about creative and placement — not as a metric to optimise toward.

The view-through window is fixed at one day and is not configurable. It is independent of your configured click-through window, and no pixel or Conversions API changes are required to support it.

## The measurement build

1. **Install and validate the pixel.** Correct pages, correct pixel ID, initialisation order preserved through your tag manager, debug mode used to confirm events fire. If a tag manager blocks or reorders initialisation, install the snippet directly.
2. **Match event names exactly.** The most common cause of zero conversions is a configured event that does not match the event sent. Custom events require Event type: Custom and a byte-identical name. Historical events do not backfill after a fix.
3. **Add the Conversions API for server-side events.** Browser pixel for browser events, Conversions API for server-side. Click reference values such as `oppref` must survive the round trip or events arrive unattributable — the usual failure point in Shopify and headless builds.
4. **Wire dynamic URL parameters as the join key.** `{campaign_id}`, `{ad_group_id}`, `{ad_id}`, and `{ad_account_id}` populate at delivery time. Precedence runs Ad URL → Ad → Ad Group → Campaign, with more specific settings taking priority.
5. **Separate view-through from click-through in reporting.** VTA (1d) gets its own column and its own conversation. Never added to Conversions, never folded into CPA.
6. **Connect the cross-channel layer.** WorkMagic, Hightouch, or Triple Whale depending on your existing stack, so conversion signal flows back to OpenAI rather than dying in a dashboard.

## Cross-channel integrations

- **WorkMagic** — connect ChatGPT Ads to view performance alongside other channels and send conversion signals back to OpenAI through the Conversions API.
- **Hightouch** — send conversion events from any warehouse model using Pixel ID plus API key, with a live debugger and sync alerting.
- **Triple Whale** — measure ChatGPT Ads next to other channels; Sonar Optimize returns stronger conversion signal to OpenAI.

Sending signal back matters more than the dashboard. An integration that only reads data leaves the optimisation model as blind as it was.

## Automatic advanced matching

Automatic advanced matching helps match website conversions to your ads using supported customer information entered into website forms. The OpenAI Pixel hashes this information in the browser before including it with conversion events. Enable it from Tools → Conversions → Data Source; no pixel implementation changes are required.

Treat it as a privacy decision rather than a settings toggle: it sends hashed form data to an advertising platform, which belongs in front of whoever owns privacy review before it is switched on. It is reversible.

## FAQ

**What is a view-through conversion in ChatGPT Ads?** A conversion counted when someone converts within one day of seeing an eligible ad impression, and no qualifying ad click receives credit for the same conversion. If both qualify, the click gets credit.

**Are view-through conversions included in my Conversions total?** No. The Conversions column contains click-through conversions only. View-through conversions are separate supplemental reporting and should never be used in CPA.

**Can I change the view-through attribution window?** No. It is fixed at one day and independent of your click-through window.

**Do I need to change my pixel setup for view-through reporting?** No. The same submitted conversion events support both click-through and view-through reporting.

**Why do my conversion events show zero in Ads Manager?** Almost always an event mismatch. The event sent must match the event configured on the campaign, and custom events need Event type: Custom with an exactly matching name. Confirm the conversion was attached before traffic started; corrections only affect new traffic.

**Why don't ChatGPT Ads clicks match my Google Analytics sessions?** They measure different things. Clicks count ad interactions; sessions depend on page load, redirects, consent settings, browser blocking, UTM handling, attribution windows, and time zone. Compare identical date ranges and time zones, then reconcile against a CSV export.

**How long until conversions appear in reporting?** Allow 24 to 48 hours for attributed conversions.
