> GPT Ads AI runs ChatGPT Ads campaigns day to day: campaign architecture, objective selection, Maximize results versus manual bidding, platform targeting across iOS app / Android app / web, budget strategy, and location targeting. Several of these decisions cannot be reversed after campaign creation.

## What a campaign contains

- Campaign title
- Objective
- Conversion event (for campaigns with the Conversions objective)
- Budget
- Start and end dates
- Countries to target
- Platforms to target (optional)
- Custom audiences to include or exclude (optional)

## The three objectives

Your campaign objective determines how ads are priced and how delivery is optimised. **It cannot be changed after the campaign is created.**

| Objective | Definition | Marketing goal | How the system optimises | How you pay |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CPM | Cost per 1,000 impressions | Scale, reach, and awareness | Broad delivery at scale | Per 1,000 impressions |
| CPC | Cost per click | Engagement and traffic | Clicks from users likely to engage | Per valid click |
| oCPC | Conversion-optimised cost per click | Downstream actions after a click | Clicks more likely to drive your conversion goal | Per valid click, not per conversion |

With oCPC you pay per valid click, not per conversion. The optimisation targets conversions; the billing does not.

## Maximize results bid strategy

Maximize results lets ChatGPT Ads automatically set and adjust bids on your behalf, optimising toward your selected campaign goal — such as clicks or conversions — to get as many results as possible from your budget.

It is **selected by default for eligible new ad groups**, and is reviewed or changed in the ad group's Bid strategy section. The alternative is **Manual: Max bid**.

Maximize results may be a good fit when you want to:
- Get as many results as possible from your budget
- Optimise toward your selected campaign goal
- Spend less time manually managing bid levels

**The limitation to read carefully:** Maximize results prioritises result volume and does not guarantee delivery against a specific CPA, CPC, ROAS, or other cost-efficiency target at this time. If you have a specific bid limit you need to stay within — a thin-margin product, a finance-mandated CPA, a fixed payback window — use the manual or advanced bid controls in Ads Manager instead.

### Setting it up

1. In Ads Manager Beta, create a campaign.
2. Continue to the ad group step.
3. Review Maximize results, selected by default for eligible new ad groups.
4. To use a different strategy, select Manual: Max bid in the ad group's bid strategy section.
5. Complete ad group and ad setup, then launch.

## Platform targeting

Platform targeting controls which ChatGPT surfaces your campaign can deliver on. In the Campaign dialog, the Platforms multi-select dropdown lets you include one or more of:

- **iOS App**
- **Android App**
- **Web** (covers both desktop web and mobile web)

**The reporting gap to plan around:** Insights currently group device reporting into Mobile and Desktop, and mobile web is counted under Mobile. You can therefore target more precisely than you can currently report. Until more detailed platform reporting ships, isolating a platform in its own campaign is the only reliable way to read its performance.

## Budgets

**Daily budget** — the amount you want to spend each day. This is a delivery target, so actual spend may fluctuate above or below it on an individual day. The right starting point on a new account.

**Campaign-total budget** — the total to spend over the campaign's full duration, and the stricter control on total spend. It is a spending limit, **not a pacing control**: the budget is not distributed evenly across campaign dates, and spend may accumulate quickly depending on how well your ads match eligible conversations.

Some budget type changes are irreversible. Changing a campaign-total budget to a daily budget cannot be undone.

### Minimum daily budgets by market

| Market | Minimum daily budget |
|---|---|
| United States | 25 USD |
| United Kingdom | 15 GBP |
| Canada | 25 CAD |
| Australia | 25 AUD |
| New Zealand | 25 NZD |
| Japan | 2,500 JPY |
| Korea | 25,000 KRW |
| Brazil | 40 BRL |
| Mexico | 150 MXN |
| India | 725 INR |

Minimums are denominated in the ad account's billing currency. India has a published minimum but is not yet listed as an available Ads Manager market.

## Location targeting

Campaign-level country targeting is supported everywhere Ads Manager is available. In the United States, state, designated market area (DMA), and ZIP code targeting are also supported. Location availability varies by country — search the campaign location picker to confirm what is available, or download the location catalogue as a CSV.

## How we run the account

1. **Structure campaigns around business goals.** One campaign per distinct objective, region, or product category, because objective and budget type are effectively permanent.
2. **Pick the objective deliberately, once.** CPM for reach, CPC for traffic, oCPC for downstream actions. This is the decision that costs the most to get wrong.
3. **Set the bid strategy per ad group.** Maximize results where volume is the constraint, manual max bid where cost control is — decided per ad group, not as account-wide policy.
4. **Choose the budget type knowing it is one-way.** Daily for control and learning, campaign-total for a hard ceiling on a finite push.
5. **Target platforms and locations per market.** The right platform mix in the US is rarely the right mix elsewhere.
6. **Test themes across multiple ad groups.** Several ad groups per campaign, each with a distinct value proposition and its own context hints.

## FAQ

**What is the Maximize results bid strategy?** A bid strategy that lets ChatGPT Ads automatically set and adjust bids, optimising toward your selected campaign goal to get as many results as possible from your budget. Selected by default for eligible new ad groups.

**Does Maximize results guarantee a target CPA or ROAS?** No. It prioritises result volume and does not guarantee delivery against a specific CPA, CPC, ROAS, or other cost-efficiency target at this time.

**When should I use Maximize results versus manual bidding?** Maximize results when volume is the goal and you want to spend less time managing bids. Manual: Max bid when you have a hard efficiency ceiling you cannot breach.

**What is platform targeting in ChatGPT Ads?** A campaign-level control over which ChatGPT surfaces your ads deliver on — iOS App, Android App, or Web, where Web covers desktop and mobile web.

**Can I change a campaign objective after creating it?** No. Create a new campaign with the objective you want instead.

**Can I change my budget type after launch?** Only in one direction. Changing a campaign-total budget to a daily budget cannot be reversed.

**Does a campaign-total budget pace spend evenly?** No. It is a total spending limit, not a pacing control, and spend may accumulate quickly.

**Why is my campaign not serving?** Confirm ad account verification and billing are complete, the campaign and ads are active, the campaign dates include today, and the ads have completed review.
